Geography and Population
Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and located in the Chao Phraya River delta in Thailand's central plains. Bangkok is classified as a mega city and with 8 million people living in the city and surrounding areas in 2010, with another 14,000,000 living in the surrounding suburbs. Bangkok covers an area of 1,568.737 square kilometers. Between 2000 and 2010, the city grew by 30%, while the suburban shires grew more than twice, at 66%.Of this, about 700 square kilometres form the very crowded city area. It is has the biggest population out of all other cities in Thailand.

Thailand specialises in silk it is a very important part of its culture that legend says dates back to 1 AD. One of Thailand’s major silkworm farms is an only 3 hour drive from Bangkok. Jim Thompson and company is an employer of over 2,000 families and $14,540,325 worth of silk was imported out of Thailand in 2006. The silk industry is a major benefit for Bangkok as well as many businesses selling the silk there are successful with due to tourist wanting to by their genuine products.
